Brick House Painting Melbourne

Brick house painting modernises a dated Melbourne facade. We clean, prime and coat brick with breathable masonry coatings, perfect for unifying extensions or brightening a dark home.

Why brick porosity decides how a paint system performs

Brick is not one surface. Dense handmade Victorian red brick absorbs primer differently to the cream and clinker brick of post-war and mid-century homes, which behave differently again to the brick veneer on later builds. Each takes up primer at its own rate, which changes how much product is needed and how well the topcoat bonds.

Efflorescence, the white salt bloom on brick, has to be fully removed before painting. Brushing it off and coating over it traps the salts, which keep pushing outward and lift the film. The surface needs to be clean, dry and sealed with a masonry product that tolerates some ongoing salt movement.

Mortar joints matter too. Where mortar is crumbling or recessed, water tracks behind the film at the joint line and fails there first. Raking out and re-pointing bad joints before painting protects both the coating and the brickwork.

Common questions

Can you paint over brick?

Yes. Brick house painting requires the right preparation and products. We clean, prime and apply specialist masonry coatings that adhere to brick and provide long-lasting colour and protection.

Is brick house painting a good idea?

Brick house painting is an excellent way to modernise a dated facade, unify mismatched extensions or brighten a dark home. It is a cost-effective alternative to re-rendering or re-cladding.

What paint do you use on brick houses?

We use premium Dulux masonry coatings designed specifically for brick and masonry surfaces. These products are breathable, flexible and UV resistant.

Can painted brick be reversed?

Once brick is painted, it is very difficult to return it to its original unpainted state. We recommend choosing carefully, and we are happy to provide colour samples and mockups before you commit.
