This classic Footscray weatherboard had been a family home for over thirty years. The exterior weatherboards were faded and flaking after years of Melbourne weather, and the interior was showing its age, walls covered in scuffs and marks, yellowed ceilings, and chipped timber trim throughout. The owners wanted a complete transformation inside and out that honoured the character of the home while giving it a fresh, modern feel..

On the exterior, we started with a full high-pressure wash, then sanded and spot-primed every weatherboard by hand. Two coats of Dulux Weathershield in bright white brought the facade back to life, with the lacework verandah, window frames and fascia all finished in crisp white to match. The corrugated iron roof was left as-is, it was in good condition and complemented the fresh paintwork perfectly.
Inside, every room received thorough preparation, filling cracks in the plaster, sanding all timber surfaces back to a smooth base, and sealing water stains on the ceilings. We applied Dulux Wash & Wear in bright white across all walls and ceilings, and finished the doors, skirtings and architraves in Dulux Aquanamel semi-gloss for a crisp, hard-wearing contrast. The heritage cornice work, ceiling roses and cast iron fireplaces were carefully preserved and highlighted by the fresh white surrounds. The result was a home that felt completely renewed, brighter, cleaner and ready for the next chapter.

Common questions
How long does it take to paint a 3-bedroom house?
A standard three-bedroom interior takes five to seven working days including preparation. A full exterior repaint typically takes seven to ten, weather permitting. Modernize Solutions confirms a firm timeline with your written quote before any work starts.
How much does it cost to paint a 3-bedroom house interior?
In Melbourne, a full three-bedroom interior repaint is typically $6,000 to $11,000. That covers walls, ceilings, doors and trim, with the final price depending on wall condition, ceiling height and how much filling and sanding the prep needs.
What preparation is included in a professional paint job?
Washing surfaces, sanding back flaking or glossy paint, filling cracks and holes, caulking gaps and spot-priming bare patches. On the projects on this site, prep is usually more than half the total hours on the job. It is the difference between paint that lasts three years and paint that lasts ten.
Do I need to move out while my house is painted?
No. Interior repaints are done room by room so you keep living in the house, and we seal and ventilate work areas as we go. Low-VOC Dulux paints also mean rooms are usable again quickly.
